Recently two gifted Victorian Soccer players were selected by the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) for training scholarships, which will provide them with a head start in furthering their careers. Kobbie Boahene, Herman Espindola are patients of Physiohealth and were offered 2 out of the 3 scholarships offered to Victorians. We are very pleased to been able to support their training schedules and wish them the best in their football journey. Hopefully one the they will put on the Socceroos Guernsey.

The round the bay ride is only a week away and training is going well. I have tapered the mileage down to about 120 km per week for the last two weeks and I am feeling fresh and ready to go. No injury worries, Being a physio you would think that was inevitable but some physios are the worst patients!! The team has raised $4000.00 but we are hoping that with only a week to go all those people who have been saying that they should donate to the smith family do so now.
Please encourage your friends and families to sponsor the smith family, it is tax deductable and easy to do, you just click on thislink to the donation pageand pay with your credit card. If you don't like using the card on the net then you can drop donations off at the practice, Thanks heaps!

It was an amazing four way tie between four of the partners and amazingly the judge also happened to be a partner. Although the Judge (Sharbs) has previously publically declared that he is open to bribes he can give a guarantee that is was all just a coincidence.
The "Justin McEvoy Tipping Impairment" award was also controversial after investigations showed that both Jose and Michael had been "tanking", which means the winners this year are Brendon and Louise.

On Saturday 29th August the team at physiohealth demonstrated its holistic approach to elite athlete development by presenting to a group of young footballers who have been chosen to represent Victoria the upcoming National Soccer Championships to be held in Coffs Harbor this October. Physiohealth was represented by Sharbil Wehbe, Louise Falzon and, José Mansilla.
The team spoke on behalf of Football Federation of Victoria to the athletes about injury management and prevention, the diet and nutrition that elite athletes need to be consuming and the role of massage therapy in maintaining muscle functioning. This is an important part of the FFV elite footballer's development program as it educates the athlete about the importance of looking after their most important asset - Their Body. They addressed all the areas that are needed to allow the athlete to function at 100% at training and in games so that the body is able not only to perform but to learn new skills that are important to allow these groups of athletes to one day become future Socceroos.
The presentation is part of a series of seminars that Physiohealth in partnership with the Football Federation Victoria present as part of the Talented Players Development Program.
"Physiohealth has been a significant supporter of Football Federation Victoria in applying holistic approach towards elite athlete development across number elite programs. Physiohealth provide a variety of services from injury prevention and rehabilitation to sports science and nutrition. Responsible for the wellbeing and development of state representatives, NTC scholarship holders and W-League Players, the services provided by Physiohealth have been an integral link to the talented player development pathway" Kat Smith (talented player development manager, FFV).

On the 23/07/09, all staff members of Physiohealth attended a "staff training" day at the picturesque Medway Golf Club. The aim of the day was to ensure ongoing success of physiohealth, its staff and patients by focusing on creating an enjoyable and pleasant environment for all staff members to thrive in.
The day was compeered by Ms. Carol Fox, a leading performance coach and trainer who has worked with successful business and elite sporting teams such as the Australian Swimming team. Her work with such groups has centered on helping them set individual and team values and ethics vital for their success.
The day began with a brief (yet somewhat lengthy) history of the origins of Physiohealth from Dave and Justin, the co-founders of the business. Once the past was outlined, the day focused in on the future of Physiohealth. All employees were asked to list their own personal goals that they were working towards, as well as their goals for Physiohealth in the next 5 years.
The next topic of discussion was all about patient care; how we want to treat our patients, how we can improve in all aspects of patient care, and setting ourselves benchmarks and standards to ensure that patients leave Physiohealth assured that they received great treatment and customer service.
Finally, we moved onto the development of our company motto, or "mission statement". After many ideas and slogans were pushed forward, the company came to agreement on the following.
Our Vision;
Overall, the day was a great success for the company and its staff, and all involved left feeling that the business was indeed in great shape for the future. Co-Founder Justin McEvoy stated that "The day was a very positive overview of staff morale and culture, and it has pointed us in the right direction for future success. Our staff is our greatest asset."
We can only hope that your experience at Physiohealth in the future is truly indicative of our newly formed company motto. 01.09.2009

Jose Mansilla (Remedial Therapist) and Brendan Duncan (Physiotherapist) travelled to Coffs Harbour recently with the Victorian Under 15 & 17 Girls Soccer Teams as part of the medical team for the National Youth Championships. The Championships showcased some of the best young talent from around Australia and provided an avenue for talented young players to be identified for further development programs and the opportunity to be selected for higher honors.
The Victorian girls were a terrific squad to work with and a good time was had by all. Both teams had some mixed results with highlights being some very exciting, high quality play against more highly fancied opposition. The Under 17 girls enjoyed a relatively injury free run thanks to the magic hands of Jose while Brendan was kept extremely busy with the Under 15 girls who, unfortunately, suffered many injuries making it very difficult to get their best team out on the park.
Away from the park some of the highlights of the trip included:
Many thanks must go out to all those involved who made it a successful and easy flowing week. Special mention goes out to:

This was a truly great crew and we wish everyone the best of luck in the future! 01.09.2009
Last week I increased my mileage, so that I am riding at least one 100 km ride per week and my total is 250km/week. I also did a serious hill session out the back of Eltham. The hills were so steep that my front wheel was lifting off the ground. The plan is to get up to 300kms/week over the next few weeks and include a 150km ride as well.
So far so good, please encourage your friends and families to sponsor the smith family, it is tax deductable and easy to do, you just click on this link to the donation pageand pay with your credit card. A number of athletes who get treatment at Physiohealth were involved over the last few sessions of the World Swimming Championships. A former physiotherapy student, Dutch swimmer Hinklein Schroeder just missed out on a spot in the final of the women's 50 butterfly. After qualifying third fastest Marieke Gehurer Gheurer took gold as one of the only swimmers to improve on her semi time.
Sarah Katsoulis and Shayne Reese were part of the women's medley relay team that took bronze, as did Patrick Murphy as part of the men's 4 x 200m freestyle relay team. Andrew Lauterstein improved on his semi time to place 5th in the 100 butterfly final. Well done to all these Physiohealth patients.

An interesting incident occurred prior to Michael Phelps breaking the 100m butterfly world record, when he broke his goggles in a collision with Cate Campbell in the warm up pool. Despite a sore head, Cate went on to post the fastest time in the 50 free qualifying.
The final session will be conducted later today. 03.08.2009
A fantastic day for the Aussies with a number of Physiohealth associated athletes figuring in the medals. The session started with a bang when Brenton Rickard, formerly a Melbourne based athlete, broke the world record to win the men's 100 breastroke. It was a pleasure to see all the hard work in the pool and on the massage table pay off after years of competition at the elite level.

Jess Schipper then pulled out a big PB to take home the silver in the women's 100 butterfly. Melbourne Viccentre athlete Matthew Targett followed up with a blistering swim to take silver in the men's 50 fly.
Nunawading athlete Ashley Delaney who was a Physiohealth patient before moving to the AIS narrowly missed a swim in the final of the men's 100 backstroke. However, clubmate Sarah Katsoulis, a Physiohealth regular, swam a great race to qualify 3rd fastest for the final of the womens 100 breastroke. We wish her all the best for the final.
The night finished with a gutsy swim from Stephanie Rice who battled hard to be piped for the gold medal which was won in another world record. Stephanie has been treated over a number of years by Physiohealth staff on Australian swimming teams, including David Morarty, Katie Pettifer, Justin McEvoy and Cory Prout. 31.07.2009

Coryand Katie have arrived at the Australian Swim Team staging camp in Manchester for final preparations for the World Swimming Championships. Both are looking forward to working with the Aussie swim team at the championships. 20.07.2009
Cory Proutand Katie Pettifer jet off to Europe mid-July as support staff for the Australian Swimming Team competing in the World Swimming Championships. They will look after a team of 41 of Australia's brightest young talent as they take on the World's best swimmers at the meet in Rome from July 26th to the 2nd August. The team first travels to Manchester to make their final preparations at a staging camp before flying into Rome for the official competition.
While both Physiohealth members have traveled with Swimming Australia previously, this is Cory's first official selection as a physiotherapist of the full team for a major championship. Katie has had the pleasure of working as a masseur with the Australian team at recent World and Commonwealth games, and will follow on from her successful trip to the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008.
This year's Swimming team has a great mix of experience and youth with enough talent for Australia to again be considered one of the strongest swimming nations in the world. We look forwards to hearing updates from the competition from Cory and Katie in the coming weeks. Good Luck! 06.07.2009
Sharbil Wehbehas been away for the past 2 weeks in his role as the physiotherapist for Football Federation Victoria. The team who has just started their preparaion for W-League season in October participated in a 4 team tournament against teams from across China.
The following week (11th - 18th April) Sharbil was in Canberra for the National Junior Championships for 13 year old boys and 14 year old girl. Cory is now in the process of applying for his Sports Title with the Australian Physiotherapy Association.
Cory recently travelled to Sydney as the physiotherapist for the Victorian Institute of Sport to look after the elite swimmers at the World Championships Trials. It was a successful campaign for the Victorians with a number of new additions to the VIS program and three Victorians qualifying to complete at the World Championships being held later this year in Rome.
Cory will also be travelling to Rome later this year with the full Australian Swim Team as the physiotherapist for the trip following his selection as part of the support team for the championships.
