One of the most common questions we get in the postnatal period is “ when can I return back to exercise?”
Everyone’s pregnancy and postnatal recovery is different. At PhysioHealth Women’s we tailor the assessment and rehabilitation program to you.
After a postnatal assessment, most clients can get back into low impact exercise under our guidance. However, it usually takes a little longer to get back into high impact exercise such as running or jumping exercises.
What a return to high impact postnatal assessment includes:
- Pelvic floor muscle assessment
- Abdominal separation assessment (including abdominal strength)
- Balance assessment
- Calf strength assessment
- Gluteal strength assessment
Once assessed, your physiotherapist will discuss with you where you are at in regards to returning to exercise. If your body is not quite ready to return to exercise, the physiotherapist will prescribe a tailored program to help you achieve the strength and stability you need.
