PhysioHealth is proud to be a partner of Football Victoria’s (FV) Talented Player Development Pathway. This has been a strong partnership for over 10 years which has lead to Sharbil Wehbe becoming the Head of Physiotherapy for Football Victoria.

Football is currently growing at a feverish rate. With programs being offered for both males and females, FFV is ensuring that all Victorians have the chance to improve, learn and develop the appropriate skills and knowledge required to be a talented footballer. PhysioHealth provides all physiotherapy and massage services for these programs including extensive research to the nature of injuries and subsequent implementation of injury prevention programs.

FV’s pathway is designed to see that the best in Victoria, from as young as 12 years of age, follow a stream that sees them constantly working on their technique and their mental and physical development PhysioHealth’s expertise and experience plays an essential part in the development and education of these developing athletes. The programs have seen the development of many national representatives in the Olyroos and Socceroos, including Matthew Spiranovic, Melbourne Victory’s Leigh Broxham, Adrian Leijer, and even Simon Colosimo.

Talented player programs include: State Programs * State Football Development and Regional Academy Program * State Representative Program – FFA National Junior & Youth Championships * State Futsal Development Program * State Futsal Representative Program – FFA National Futsal Championships High Performance Programs * National Training Centre (for Boys) * Senior National Training Centre (for Boys) * National Training Centre (for Girls) * Emerging Athletes Program * Melbourne Victory Women – Westfield W-League

All FV Talented Player Development programs are designed for young players that will assist in their development over the long term and is based on the implementation of the FFA National Curriculum.

A National Championships tournament (which a PhysioHealth therapist attends) is only one component of a State Representative Program and whilst beneficial, is not the final determinant in the overall development of an elite player. The programs are designed to develop football skills with added support for the development of personal skills such as resilience and self reliance, two factors in becoming both an elite performer and valuable assets in life.

With a combined experience of over 30 years of working in football our physios have developed the following important initiatives;

  1. Football specific functional screenings that analyse movement patterns
  2. Football specific core, balance and stability (CBS) programs to aid the development of elite players both physically and technically by improving their movement patterns
  3. Football specific return to sport and rehabilitation programs for injured players
  4. Injury prevention and education programs at a local community level based on years of research into a large number of football related injuries
  5. Education of strapping courses at local community clubs
